AUGUSTA – State lawmakers will consider a bill aiming to strengthen the state’s laws against human trafficking.
Republican Senator Amy Volk has submitted a bill that would make a misdemeanor sex trafficking charge a felony if someone is convicted of two of more offenses. Volk says the idea is to help prevent human trafficking.
And this isn’t the first time the Republican Senator has introduced this kind of legislation. Just last year the governor signed a bill sponsored by Volk that made sex trafficking an affirmative defense to prostitution charges.
