AUGUSTA – Investigators say an improperly disposed cigarette is what caused an Augusta apartment fire on Friday.
More than a dozen people have been displaced after the three story building went up in flames Friday evening. Crews are still concerned porches at the state street complex may collapse.
Firefighters worked hard to contain the flames to the apartment building – although a nearby structure did receive some damage. Five people were inside the building when the fire began. They were all able to safely evacuate.
The cause has been ruled accidental – residents of the apartment building are being assisted by the Red Cross.
