BELFAST – – The Cinderella Project of Maine gave away hundreds of new and used donated dresses to girls getting ready for the prom season.
High school girls from across the state lined up, even throughout the night in Belfast, to get their hands on that ‘dream prom dress’.
This is the tenth year the event has kicked off, giving away more than a thousand free dresses. The project aims to ensure everyone goes to prom, or at least has the chance, regardless of price, to attend.
Destiny Winslow is a student at Mount View High School. This is her first year attending prom and attending the Cinderella project. After trying on several dresses, she found the one she will be wearing.
“I picked blue because it makes me feel like a princess,”said Winslow.
Her grandmother and boyfriends mother also came along to help her shop around.
The donated dresses filled the room. There were dresses of all colors, sizes and styles.
Mandi Sawyer, chair, said she hopes the event will inspire more to give back and to pay it forward.
