AUGUSTA – A new plan in Augusta would require you to rent them for at least seven days at a time…or face the same licensing as hotels, motels and inns.
For more than two decades, Audrey Leeds-Miller has been part of the tradition… helping homeowners make a little money off of their properties.
But LD436 would change they way they do business… requiring homes be rented out for at least 7 days at a time… or be subject to the same licensing regulations as short-term lodging places, like hotels, motels and inns.
State Senator John Patrick says the inns and motels have been losing business to rental homes… and this bill would level the playing field.
Leeds-Miller says there’s no competition. People who want a whole home to themselves aren’t looking for the inn or hotel experience.
A similar bill last legislative session failed to make it out of committee. Leeds-Miller hopes this one will, too.
The public will have a chance to weigh in on this legislation at a hearing on Monday morning.
