BANGOR – Mabel Wadsworth Women’s Health Center announced today that Andrea Irwin has been selected as the Center’s next executive director, beginning June 1.
Andrea comes to Mabel Wadsworth Center from the state’s largest consumer health advocacy organization, Consumers for Affordable Health Care (CAHC), where she has served as the Legal and Policy Director for the past year. Prior to that she was the staff attorney and policy advocate at CAHC from 2010-2014. During her tenure at CAHC, she has led the organization’s policy efforts related to implementation of the Affordable Care Act and represented individuals with issues related to their health coverage, helping them to navigate the health system and access health care services.
Andrea has devoted her career to advocating for women’s health, is a passionate champion for access to abortion and a strong feminist. As a Health and Reproductive Rights Law Fellow for the National Women’s Law Center and a staff attorney for the National Abortion Federation, she gained expertise in reproductive health law and policy. She currently serves on the board of the Maine Women’s Lobby and is a member of Maine’ Permanent Commission on the Status of Women. Andrea grew up in Brewer, graduated from Bates College and earned her law degree from American University in 2006.

I am eager to work with the board of directors and the extraordinary staff to lead the Center and carry on the good work of Ruth, Mabel and the other founders.”
