(Belfast, ME) – As prom approaches hundreds of high school girls across Maine are getting ready to line up in Belfast for a chance to look through thousands of donated dresses this weekend.
Thanks to the “Cinderella Project of Maine”, they will be giving away Free dresses to those unable to buy their own. The non-profit has given away more than 1,000 beautiful dresses over the past ten years.
“The message is, and always has been for girls to pay it forward,” said Chair Mandi Sawyer.
Sawyer hopes the event will encourage others to give back so more dresses are donated every year, ultimately allowing more young ladies the chance to dress up and go to prom.
The giveaway will be Saturday, April 4th from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. in the Reny’s Plaza in Belfast.
There is also one in Gardner April 18th from 9am to 2pm at Johnson Hall, 280 Water Street.
Organizers are still accepting dresses, especially plus sizes.
