BANGOR – Over two dozen Husson University athletes will travel to Rhode Island this weekend to represent their school at a regional competition. The members of the Husson Dance and Cheer Teams will be competing for the first time at the New England All-Star and College Cheer & Dance Championships, after taking home first place for both teams during last year’s New England Opens Cheer & Dance Championship. This year’s competition will be held on Saturday, March 28th, at the Ryan Center in Kingston, Rhode Island.
“Last year was the first year that the cheer team had competed in a few years, and the first time ever that the dance team had competed,” said Hillary Hoyt, coach for Husson’s Dance Team. “This year’s event is even larger than last year’s, and we are excited for the opportunity and hoping to repeat the success we had last year.”
In preparation for the competition, the teams are inviting the local community to attend their open performance preview on Thursday, March 26th. The preview will be held from 8 PM to 8:30 PM at Husson University’s Newman Gymnasium. There is no cost to attend, and there will be ample opportunities for meet & greets and photos with the athletes after the performances.
“We’re passionate about what we do, and we’re excited to be able to present our performance to our community and feel their support before we head to competition,” said Hoyt. “We’d love to see young cheerleaders and dancers in the crowd, in hopes of inspiring future Husson athletes.”
