ELLSWORTH – The Ellsworth Public Library is hosting an informational session and lead free tackle exchange on Thursday March 26 at 6:00 p.m.
Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (MDIFW) biologist, Danielle D’Auria, will present a multi-media slide show about the common loon, its natural history, status in Maine, and an overview of the current threats including lead fishing tackle. This presentation was developed as part of a 2-year cooperative initiative among MDIFW, conservation groups, and sporting groups to increase angler awareness of current lead tackle laws, reduce the use of lead fishing tackle, and reduce common loon mortality. Lead-free fishing tackle and outreach materials will be available. There will also be a lead tackle collection bin, so now’s the time to clean out your tackle box!
