BANGOR – Maine Children’s Author Canaan A. York will celebrate the January 6 release of his fourth picture book, a unique and inspiring story called The Cement Sky, on consecutive weekends with book signing and launch events in Bangor.
The first will be from 3-6pm on Saturday, March 28 at Specialty Sweets. The second from 1-3pm on Saturday, April 4 at The Briar Patch in downtown.
The Medway native is known for penning signature stories that, while geared towards children, serve to inspire and uplift people of all ages. With The Cement Sky, York has achieved his greatest and most original story to date. The whimsical narrative is a story of developing perspective, maintaining a sense of purpose in the face of adversity and, ultimately, overcoming any obstacle.
This book already has a stage play in the works and has earned York a much-anticipated meeting with execs at Disney in Los Angeles in July (in conjunction with the Society of Children’s Book Writer’s and Illustrator’s (SCBWI) largest national conference).
York has had the privilege of doing reading and signing events across the state, with the story and its ideals being cherished by all students (especially some who deal with mental or physical disabilities). York is also in development for a fundraising walk tentatively called the ‘Fleet of Feet’ that will generate funds for a number of debilitating causes that participants choose which to support based on their own personal stories and/or histories (some include various cancers, MS, etc.).
York has a charisma and unflappable sense of positivity that is apparent in his writing as well as his personality and communication skills. He would love the opportunity to participate on a segment of your show prior to the events he has in Bangor to discuss the book, its themes and the many ways he hopes the message of the story can foster positivity throughout Maine and the world at large.
