BANGOR – The fourth annual Walk for Warmth event took place on Saturday.
The Husson University Student Government partnered with the United Way of Eastern Maine to help raise money for families who can’t afford their heat bill.
The way they did that was with a lot of walking during the fourth annual Walk for Warmth.
The walk began at Husson’s Newman Gymnasium and ended at the campus Bell Tower.
Participants had the complete one, two or the full three-mile walk.
“We had a great turnout. I think we had more participants than we’ve had in any previous year. We had about 28 people sign up for the walk, and we had about $500 in additional donations through our online channel, so we were able to raise over $1000 to donate to United Way,” said Emma Grodan, an organizer of the walk.
She added this event helps connect Husson University students to their surrounding neighborhoods
“It’s important for us to help the community because it shows that we are one big community and that the Husson campus isn’t just students that are being there for school. It’s students that care about the surrounding area,” Grodan said.
