BANGOR – The Bangor Water District is holding it’s second Thomas Hill Standpipe tour of the year Wednesday.
The standpipe was open year-round, but after a death in the 1940’s, it was closed to the public.
Several years later the district began allowing people to climb to the top 4 times a year, to see what they say is an incredible view.
“On a clear day you can see as far away as Sugarloaf and Saddleback Mountain” says Amanda Soucier from the Bangor Water District. “On other days you can see local landmarks, downtown Bangor into Brewer”
The standpipe will be open from four to eight Wednesday night, and there is no charge to take the one hundred step climb to the top.
Soucier says, the easiest way to access the Thomas Hill Road is from Union Street in Bangor.
