BANGOR – City councilors talked trash at a workshop meeting last night.
One of the biggest changes coming to the way the city handles garbage is what will be accepted.
Tires, construction debris and yard waste are among the items that no longer can go in the trash.
The trash will be going to the new Fiberight facility in Hampden.
“It financially made sense and the city was only recycling 10 percent of trash anyways. This facility will recycle 50 percent and will actually be better for the environment,” Bangor Public Works Director Eric Willett said.
As part of the changes, recycling should get mixed in with regular trash.
The changes are expected to go into effect by Sept. 3.
