BELFAST – One of two people charged in the beating death of a 10-year-old girl living in Stockton Springs last year has decided to admit to the charge of murder.
Julio Carrillo and his wife, Sharon, are both charged with murder in the brutal death of her daughter, Marissa Kennedy.
The child died in a Stockton Springs condo in February 2018 after months of daily beatings, the state medical examiner determined.
Assistant Attorney General Don Macomber said Monday in an email that Julio Carrillo is scheduled to change his plea on Monday, July 22.
The hearing is set for 1 p.m. at the Waldo Judicial Center.
Last month, Justice Robert Murray decided the couple would be tried separately. Julio Carrillo’s murder trial was originally scheduled to begin in August.
Macomber described Monday’s hearing as an open plea, and said Julio Carrillo would be sentenced at a later date.
Macomber added, “we will be asking for life.”
