ORRINGTON – Members of the town’s Public Safety Advisory Committee held their final public hearing for a proposed public safety building Sunday afternoon. A special referendum election on the plan is taking place through 7 p.m. on Monday.
The $2.8 million proposal calls for a facility that will be a little more than 10,000 square feet.
The facility would be located at the corner of Center and Tupper drives and would include a 30-person training room, a fitness room, and a metal roof. The committee estimates the building would last around 50 years.
Committee members said they have been working closely with neighbors and the Orrington Fire Department to make sure everyone’s concerns are addressed. They said they hope to begin construction as soon as late August.
