The Grand theatre celebrating 80th anniversary

Written by

ELLSWORTH - The Grand theatre is holding an event called "Come on Home" Saturday to commemorate its 80th anniversary.

Many have said The Grand is a staple in downtown Ellsworth.

It began showing movies in the late 1930s and over the years has welcomed live performances -- and big events.

Those who turn up Saturday can expect a whole night full of fun that will include a live auction featuring a signed baseball from Red Sox player Justin Pedroia and much more.

"There's going to be entertainment, there's a sing-along. I believe there's a bait sniffing contest, I heard. There's a lot of desserts," Executive Director Dan Turner said.

The desserts also will be auctioned off.

The event begins around 6 p.m. and costs $10 to attend.

All of the proceeds go toward keeping The Grand running.
