BANGOR – An organization people turn to in emergency situations is now facing an emergency of its own.
Officials at the American Red Cross say they have less than a three-day supply of most blood types and are now issuing an urgent call for blood and platelet donors.
They say donations always drop during the summer months — especially after holidays.
“In the summer, everyone’s on vacation enjoying the beautiful weather of Maine in the summer but take an hour out of that time and give blood,” said Caroline King of the American Red Cross of Northern and Eastern Maine.
King said it is quick and easy to donate.
Donors can register and sign up for an appointment online, use their rapid pass system or drop in to donate. The Donor Center at 900 B Hammond St. in Bangor is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
