BREWER – A portion of South Main Street in Brewer had to be shut down Monday after a car crashed into a pole.
Police say it happened between Roosevelt Avenue and Elm Street on the town line between Orrington and Brewer.
Authorities say the male driver failed to navigate a corner and drove straight into a telephone pole.
The pole then snapped and was leaning over a portion of the road.
Police say the man was not seriously injured.
According to Emera Maine, more than 2,000 customers were affected by the crash.
Emera Maine was working to replace the pole and expected service to be restored by 10 p.m. Monday.
Authorities say that portion of the road will be shut down for a couple of hours.
