Park officials are encouraging visitors to be patient with traffic congestion .
Christie Anastasia, the park's public affairs specialist, said to avoid these crowds visitors could start the day earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon. The most traffic typically is seen from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"Because Fourth of July is a very popular weekend at Acadia National Park and there's a lot of people coming here and they're trying to enjoy the park and their family and their friends and that kind of thing, we just ask that people really be patient, give people the benefit of the doubt, remember you're here to enjoy your vacation and just try to stay calm," she said.
Anastasia also encouraged people to think of a Plan B in case there isn't enough parking where they planned to go.
