TURNER – State police said the driver of a sedan crossed the centerline on Route 4 and crashed into two motorcycles on Friday.
Matthew Houle, 32, died at the scene, police said. They said the driver of the other bike, 31-year-old Ashley Hinkley, suffered serious injuries.
At least one of the motorcycles burst into flames, according to police.
Investigators have not yet determined why the driver of the sedan crossed the center line.
“Pay attention to motorcycles. Put the phone down, pay attention to driving. It’s not worth risking someone else’s life or your own. Just get there safely,” said state police Sgt. Chris Farley said.
The collision forced police to shut down a stretch of Route 4, causing heavy traffic jams.
This is the 11th deadly motorcycle crash in Maine so far this year.
