BANGOR – Bail was set at $50,000 for a local man charged with elevated aggravated assault in last Tuesday’s shooting on Union Street.
The affidavit was sealed at court but police say Albe Lagasse, 51, and another man got into a fight over a woman and Lagasse shot the other man in the leg. The other man then shot Lagasse in the head.
Lagasse was wearing a bandage on the right side of his head during Wednesday’s court hearing at the Penobscot Judicial Center.
The Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office said Lagasse has a lengthy criminal history.
“The state’s argument is that the only way to protect the public, protect the witnesses in this case and the public at large from any further crimes occurring … a high cash bail is a necessity,” said Josh Saucier, assistant district attorney for Penobscot County.
Lagasse also has been charged with tampering for calling the woman the two men were fighting over. A separate but concurrent $10,000 bail was set by Judge John Lucy for that charge.
