Mainers try for a chance to become Wheel of Fortune contestants

Written by

ORONO - Fans of Wheel of Fortune came to audition for their favorite TV game show Friday night.

The Wheelmobile made its way to Orono this week in search of contestants from eastern and central Maine for the upcoming season of the show.

Wheel watchers of all ages from all across the state lined up in hopes of having their names called.

If they impress the hosts, they'll have the opportunity to play Wheel of Fortune in the presence of Pat Sajak and Vanna White.

Some of the people in line have waited a long time for a chance to spin the wheel.

"It has been on my bucket list, the top of my bucket list for 30 years to go on the Wheel of Fortune," said Sandy Green, who was hoping to hear her name called on Friday. "I have watched the show since day one."

"Oh I'm excited, I'm happy, I'm not nervous at all," said Carol Cirard, another Wheel of Fortune hopeful. "My sister said, 'I'm not going up there if they call my name.' I said, 'Well I'll take your place.'"

Auditions for Wheel of Fortune will be held again Saturday from 5-9 p.m. at the Collins Center for the Arts on the UMaine campus in Orono.
