BANGOR – People in the Bangor area have the opportunity to save a life on Monday.
The American Red Cross and the Maine Veterans Project are hosting an emergency blood drive in Bangor.
Red Cross officials say 25 percent of all their blood comes from schools and colleges so when those close for the summer, the blood inventory drops dramatically.
They say summer vacations and other distractions further decrease blood donations.
“It truly is a life-saving gift. Blood patients don’t get to take a vacation. Their need for blood doesn’t end just because the sun is shining and it’s a great beach day,” said Account Manager Sherri Phinney.
The Red Cross will be giving Game of Thrones posters to people who donate blood.
The blood donation center at 900 Hammond St. in Bangor will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday.
