CARMEL – Over the past few weeks there have been multiple reports of vandalism at the town’s recreation facility.
There was inappropriate graffiti in the dugouts and on the climbing rock and trash all over the fields, according to Town Manager Kevin Howell.
Howell said the storyboards set up for young children along their nature trail also were destroyed. Howell said whoever did it smashed them with a rock.
The community came together to not only clean up the vandalism but also find the ones who did it.
“That rec complex is decades and decades of work and maintenance and a vision to create services for the town that we can all enjoy,” Howell said. “So when somebody takes advantage of that, I think the community as a whole really steps up and says, ‘No we’re not going to stand for that.'”
Howell said a few children who use the field offered to help clean up.
Overall, he said, the town was very passionate about what happened and residents want to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
