PORTLAND – The final day of the John Williams murder trial, originally scheduled for Monday, was postponed by a day so the defense can call one more witness who lives out of state.
Defense attorney Verne Paradis is reporting his expert witness will take the stand Tuesday morning, with closing arguments expected afterwards.
Williams is accused of shooting Cpl. Eugene Cole of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office last April.
His defense team is arguing that he was in drug withdrawals and incapable of intent in the shooting.
Prosecutors say Williams shot Cole in retribution for arresting his girlfriend a few days earlier.
