LINCOLN – June is National Home Ownership Monday and to celebrate, USDA Rural Development helped one woman find her dream home.
Single mother of three boys Jennifer Jordan had been renting a house for a while. She said she didn’t want to have to keep moving so she started looking for the perfect home for her family.
“I kind of got that doubt like, ‘Yeah right, I’m not gonna be able to have a house this nice,'” Jordan said.
With help from USDA Rural Development, she was able to make her dream a reality and on Friday of last week, her family celebrated.
USDA offers a home ownership program where qualifying homeowners don’t need a down payment and they can get a lower interest rate.
“If you’re renting and have an income that’s pretty restrictive anyway that’s likely never to happen, so that’s where Rural Development can come in and use those resources to make that happen,” said State Director Tim Hobbs.
Jordan said she started looking at homes and it wasn’t too long before she found the one.
“It was the first house that I walked into and I was just like, [gasp], and I just fell in love with it,” she said.
“It’s really kinda neat to see someone that has a dream that they never thought they could attain and then here they are so it’s a pretty cool feeling,” Hobb said
Now she’s a proud homeowner in Lincoln.
Her sons’ last day of school was on June 14 and now she and her family are looking forward to their first summer at their new home, Jordan said.
“It’s kind of a big exciting thing for us because we can all live here together and it’s just really nice to be somewhere, finally,” she said.
