"Mama Mia" takes all the music from the group Abba to tell the tale of a young woman on a Greek island paradise trying to figure out who her father is just before her own wedding.
The director said there are lots of local actors, incredible dancing and music that drives the storyline.
"The audience is literally going to want to jump up on their feet. They are going to want to sing along. It feels a lot like a concert but I think what a lot of people are surprised about is the heart of it. It just really celebrates family and love and just what it means to have joy in your life," Director Aimee Turner said.
Shows run from June 13 through July 14. Tickets can be purchased online at penobscottheatre.org or by calling the box office.
