SKOWHEGAN – The Skowhegan Lions Club is now in a sticky situation after someone stole more than 100 whoopie pies from its fairground booth.
“Most of us have served in this club for many years,” Youney said. “We don’t like to see something like this happen.”
According to a Skowhegan Lions Club member, the damage was noticed Sunday morning.
John Youney, who is a member of the club’s board of directors, said, at least ten cases of whoopie pies were stolen, the cookies made for Special Olympics were gone, and the freezer was broken into causing 36 cases of whoopie pies to go bad.
Youney said be believed the thieves should be taught a lesson.
“If in fact they catch them, and I honestly suspect they will have somebody in custody within a couple of weeks, I would like the judge to order them to do community service. 100 hours with the Lions Club so they see just how hard we work to make this money,” said Youney.
According to Youney, people have already reached out and offered to replace the stolen whoopie pies.
