BANGOR- Some people have new wheels today thanks to the annual Bangor Police Department Bicycle Auction.
Almost 90 bikes were auctioned off at the Bangor Parks and Recreation building on Saturday morning.
The bikes were found abandoned around the city.
Potential bike buyers got a chance to look over the wheels before the auctioning began.
The funds raised today go toward the Bangor Police Department’s community service fund to help pay for community events.
“The money absolutely goes back into the community. We buy things to hand out to tour groups and to kids when we do school visits,” Sgt. Wade Betters said.
Betters added that they wait at least six months, in case an owner comes forward, before putting the bicycle aside for auction.
