Fairfield man rescued from Appalachian Trail

RAINBOW TOWNSHIP - Game wardens rescued a Fairfield man on a remote region of the Appalachian Trail in Rainbow Township Friday.

Authorities say they got a call around noon for a man suffering a medical emergency on the trail.

25-year-old Devin Kaufman called 911 and told dispatchers he was hiking southbound near Big Beaver Pond.

Authorities say they had to be flown by warden service aircraft to the shore of Rainbow Lake, near where Kaufman was located.

Game wardens say Kaufman was ill and very weak, and had to be taken to C.A. Dean Hospital for treatment.
