BELFAST - A 22-year-old Morrill man charged in the March 15 shooting death of a Belfast man was in court on Thursday.

Austin McDevitt walked into the Waldo Judicial Center wearing shackles for this arraignment.

Court documents say he shot 26-year-old Shane Sauer seven times, reportedly over a woman.

"Mr. McDevitt, as to the charge of intentional or knowing murder, how do you plead at this time?" asked Justice Robert Murray.

"Not guilty," said McDevitt.

"We will enter the not guilty plea on the docket at this time," said Justice Murray.

McDevitt is being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.

Around twenty people attended the hearing, but declined a request for comment.

His next court date is in August.
