UPDATE: Bridgewater murder trial to begin Thursday

Written by

HOULTON - The murder trial of an Easton man charged with killing his 79-year-old stepfather in Bridgewater last year will begin tomorrow.

James Peaslee faces a murder charge in the death of Paul Hilenski.

Jury selection at the Aroostook County Superior Court in Houlton began Wednesday.

“Depending on how that goes, we might have a second day of jury selection,” said John Tebbetts, a defense attorney representing Peaslee along with Stephen Smith. “We will either begin the case on Thursday or Friday.”

Late Wednesday evening, Tebbetts said the jury had been selected, and opening statements will be heard Thursday morning at 10 a.m.

Police arrested Peaslee in January 2018, hours after they responded to a 911 call from Hilenski’s home where they found his body.
