Sailing for a cause

Written by

Glenburn - A Bangor defense lawyer is trading in the courtroom for the open sea.

Jeffrey Silverstein will be sailing more than 250 miles from Kittery to Lubec to honor a colleague, Julio Desanctis who passed away from cancer in 2011. Not only will his journey honor a friend, he'll be fundraising for cancer care at Northern Light Health. So far he says he's halfway to his five-thousand dollar goal.

"He was widely known as a champion of the underdog and downtrodden and someone who was very adept at working on his feet," said Silverstein. "He would say go for it. He would love this idea and just appreciate the fact that through him I'm trying to advance the cause of the less fortunate."

"The sail boat he'll be taking was left to him by Desanctis, which Silverstein says makes the trip even more special. He says the journey will take seven to 10 days to complete.
