Bangor businesses gearing up for summer concert series Featured

BANGOR - We're less than a week away from the start of Bangor's summer concert series and local businesses are gearing up for what they expect to be a busy weekend and summer.

Don't let the construction fool you, Lynyrd Skynyrd is set to take the Darling's Waterfront Pavilion stage Saturday night as planned, kicking off a summer full of concerts in Bangor.

"The busiest days for us are when there's a concert going on...no question," said Blaze Bangor Bar Manager Fai Littman.

"Well it's great to have the concerts across the street," said Seasons on Main Grille and Lounge Manager Tom Workman. "It brings a lot of people in."

This is the 10th anniversary of concerts at the Darling's Waterfront Pavilion. This year features 15 shows.

"It is a star-studded lineup, I think going to be one of our more successful seasons from a standpoint of overall ticket sales," said Waterfront Concerts Promoter Alex Gray.

According to Gray about 1.5 million dollars gets pumped into the local economy because of the concerts.

"We're hoping for a really good turnout," said Littman. "The concerts really bring people out and that really helps all of the downtown businesses, especially us."

Despite the continued sewer construction surrounding the waterfront area, Bangor city officials say the concert experience won't be affected. Gray says the ongoing work is a good thing.

"I would say that's a sign of a city on the move," said Gray. "Bangor as a whole has been very dug up for the last several years...you know Bangor is on the move and so we're very encouraged by the development."

Construction will last through the summer and fall, with a completion date predicted for December.
