AUGUSTA – A federal jury vindicated an Augusta police officer who was accused of using excessive force.
According to court records, Jason Begin filed a civil suit against Laura Drouin, accusing her of using excessive force when she shot him three times during a 2015 incident at an Augusta hospital.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s office said the jury sided with Officer Drouin and returned a verdict in her favor.
Drouin shot Begin at the hospital when he pulled a knife and slashed both his arms.
The jurors agreed with Drouin that Begin presented a threat to her.
