Former camper creates Bangor YMCA camp scholarships

BANGOR - A former Bangor Region YMCA camper is paying it forward by giving other children the same experience she had.

Aliexandra Johnston is now a 23-year-old college graduate who has created scholarships so two children can go to Camp G. Peirce Webber for free. 

 

Johnston will be paying for it herself.

 

"The Y has been such a support system for myself and kind of my home and I want kids to have that opportunity, to have the Y as their home as well and I want them to experience the love and caring and just how awesome the Y is and just have that support system for themselves," she said.

 

One scholarship is for a child entering kindergarten through second grade and the other is for a child entering third through sixth grade. 

 

Scholarship applications must be submitted to the Bangor Region YMCA by Monday, June 10, along with the Camp G. Pierce Webber registration form.
