The sheriff's office is working with Healthy Acadia and Tip411 on a new tip-line that can be accessed from a downloadable app or by text message.
That way, messages can be sent anonymously, if the sender desires.
“We can't figure this all out by ourselves,” said Sheriff Barry Curtis, of the Washington County Sheriff's Office. “People have got to help us. It's their community. We're here to help the community the best we can but we can't know everything that is going on. And so when people step forward, it's a big help.”
“We'll take all the tips we can get,” the sheriff added later.
To send an anonymous tip via text message, text the keyword "WCSO" and the information to Tip411 or 847411.
For those who want to use the new app, there is a link to download it on the sheriff department's website.
Curtis stressed that the new tip-line is not for emergencies, where 911 should be used.
