ORONO – Students from colleges across the state received diplomas Saturday, including those who graduated from the University of Maine.
The Harold Alfond Sports Arena was packed with students and family members as more than 1,700 students graduated over the weekend.
“Today we’re celebrating everyone here graduating [in] 2019. There’s some really proud parents and family members here today so I’m very excited. Really proud of everyone here,” said Salutatorian Ana Eliza Souza-Cunha.
“I have my parents and little sister. The six other siblings couldn’t make it. Big family but it’s a big day and I’m excited,” Valedictorian Drew Brooks said.
In one week, Souza-Cunha will be starting a job doing clinical research in Boston. Brooks will be going to Europe for a month before he starts teaching with the Princeton Review and attending Tufts University School of Medicine.
