Ground crews reportedly were on their way to rescue the women, who appear to be healthy.
According to Millinocket Police Chief Craig Worster, Aprylle Tapley-Pepper, 41, and Tammy Michaud, 44, left Highlands Tavern in Millinocket Sunday afternoon.
The two told friends they were going on a "rip ride," which means they were headed north out of Millinocket on the Golden Road.
Worster said the two stopped at a store in Millinocket and purchased two 18-packs of beer, food and gassed up the gray KIA Sportage they were driving in.
Millinocket Police and the Maine Game Wardens led the search.
