Student arrested after allegedly making online threat

THORNDIKE - A student at Mount View High School was arrested by sheriff's deputies in Waldo County, after allegedly making threats on social media.

According to RSU 3 Superintendent Paul Austin, school staff received word of the threat Monday morning just as school was starting.

In a statement, Austin said the student was immediately identified, and once police determined the threat was credible, the juvenile was taken into custody and removed from school property.

A message to parents regarding the incident was posted on the RSU 3 website Wednesday, in which Austin said school safety continues to be their top priority.

Austin also noted that sheriff's deputies, in addition to the school's resource officer, have been at the school throughout the week in an effort to reassure parents, students and faculty.
