Child porn, robbery top indictments list

AUGUSTA - Child porn and robbery charges top the list of indictments handed up by the Kennebec County grand jury Monday.

A 44-year-old South China man faces three charges of possessing child pornography.

According to court documents, Robert Conklin's computer contained sexually explicit pictures of children under the age of 12.

Those charges date back to incidents that allegedly occurred in March of last year.

The grand jury returned robbery and theft charges against a 37-year-old Waterville man in connection with a February bank robbery.

The indictment against Jason Mackenrodt accuses him of robbing Bangor Savings Bank's Waterville branch of more than $10,000.

Mackenrodt allegedly walked into the bank's Upper Main Street branch, pointed what turned out to be a toy gun, then fled across the street where he slipped on ice before being arrested by an off-duty state trooper.

Grand jurors also charged 29-year-old Jesse Nichols of Augusta with robbery and theft in connection with a February robbery at a Big Apple convenience store in Augusta.
