Officials warn of scammers posing as Emera workers

STATEWIDE - Officials are warning of another scam involving Emera Maine.

Last week, the company received a number of reports that scammers claiming to be Emera employees were again targeting customers, including a number of small businesses in the area.

Several of the calls appeared to originate in North Carolina, while some of the calls looked like they came from an Emera Maine number.

Officials say any time you are contacted by an actual Emera representative, the caller would ask for the primary account holder by name and would already know your account number and billing information.

If you are concerned about a call you have received, authorities encourages you to hang up and call 855-EMERA-11, or 973-2000 immediately.
