According to Jalique Keene's defense attorney Jeffrey Toothaker, a deal could not be reached between the accused killer and state attorneys.
Keene is accused of sexually assaulting Mikaela Conley before allegedly killing her in June of last year.
An autopsy determined that Conley died from blunt force trauma to the head and strangulation.
Keene has been held without bail since his arrest.
Jury selection for the trial will begin May 20.
