Thick ice on Park Loop Road delays opening

Written by

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK - The continuing snow fall, and heavy ice pack are causing some delays at Acadia National Park.

The anticipated April 15th opening of the Park Loop Road will be delayed according to a park spokesperson.

Christie Anastasia says while some areas are safe for vehicles, other locations still have too much ice.

Some parts of the road are still covered with at least a foot of ice and snow.

"There is a small section of the Park Loop Road, about 2 miles that is open most of the winter, weather permitting" says Anastasia "that area from about Sand Beach to about Thunder Hole is still open as long as it's cleared of snow".

The Hulls Cove Visitor Center's anticipated opening is set for late may as renovations are being completed.

Anastasia says the Park Loop Road will open to vehicles as soon as it is safe...
