BANGOR – While April means spring, it also means tax filing season, and with that April 15th deadline, United Way of Eastern Maine is helping folks who waited to the last minute to file their taxes.
Saturday, the group hosted a free tax prep event at UMaine Augusta’s Bangor campus.
United Way officials said for the so-called “Procrastinator’s Day” they had about 30 people come through.
Most of them were those with low to middle incomes, young families, and seniors who needed some extra help to make that deadline.
“For a lot of people the tax refund that they get back today is going to be the most money that they see in one chunk the whole year,” said Meredith Alexander, United Way of Eastern Maine’s community initiatives manager. “So I had a woman earlier who got $700 that she wasn’t expecting back, and she’s going to be able to repair her car with it.”
And if you are also waiting to the last minute, it’s not too late to get some help from United Way of Eastern Maine.
Alexander said to go to Ca$h Maine’s website, or give United Way of Eastern Maine a call so they can help you out as soon as possible.
