"Will Maine rise to meet the challenges of today and ensure our students are the leaders of tomorrow? I hope so, and I have every expectation that with her leadership we will do so," said Governor Janet Mills while addressing the guests in attendance.
"It just couldn't have been a more wonderful and meaningful day," said President Joan Ferrini-Mundy. "People were so kind to be here, and about halfway through the thing I just sort of relaxed and thought 'this is amazing'. I'm having this great chance to be here and do this wonderful work at the University of Maine with all my friends and family and colleagues together."
Honorable guests such as Congressman Jared Golden and Director of the National Science Foundation Dr. France Córdova were just some of those in attendance, welcoming the new president from away.
"My experience from being from away...and New Hampshire really isn't that far away, but that doesn't work to convince anyone," said Ferrini-Mundy. "My experience is that doesn't mean you won't be included, welcomed, and brought in to exciting things that matter for Maine."
Before making her way to the Pine Tree State, Dr. Ferrini-mundy was the COO of the National Science Foundation.
"The most important thing for me is to be sure that the great work we do here is really getting the visibility nationally and internationally that we want for it to have, to be sure that we are getting the story out that we are making a difference in the state of Maine," said Ferrini-Mundy.
