Indigenous Peoples' Day step closer to becoming statewide

Written by

AUGUSTA - A proposal to observe Indigenous Peoples' Day instead of Columbus Day statewide state has been given initial approval by the Maine House of Representatives.

Members of the House voted 88-51 in favor of the bill, which was introduced by a Portland state representative, according to a press release from the House Democrats office.

The bill will next head to the Senate, where it will face additional votes before being sent to Gov. Janet Mills' desk.
