House approves proposal to change Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples' Day

AUGUSTA - A proposal to change the name of Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples' Day statewide has been given initial approval by the Maine House of Representatives.

According to a press release from the House democratic office, members of the House voted 88-51 on the bill, which was introduced by a Portland representative.

The bill will now head to the Senate, where it will face additional votes before being sent to Governor Mills' desk.
