STATEWIDE - Rural destination tourism is the next frontier for visitors to Vacationland.

In fact, a report released by the Maine Woods Consortium said rural destination tourism could double the number of dollars pouring into Maine's economy.

The report predicts an increase in visitors as well as an increase in visitor spending.

Mike Wilson of the Northern Forest Center said the transformation of Monson into an arts center in the middle of an outdoor sports region is a prime example of rural destination development.
