HAMPDEN – Regional School Unit 22 has used all of its allotted snow days, plus two extra days.
To make up the two unplanned snow days, school officials have decided to extend the school day for a week in April to make up for one of the days and to add a day to the end of the school year to make up for the second.
“We will be extending school for one week, April 1st through 5th, and each school will attend an extra hour in the afternoon. The rest of the students will also need to make up another school day and that will be done on Friday, June 14th,” said Regan Nickels, assistant superintendent for business.
Teachers in Hampden, Frankfort, Newburgh and Winterport are creating plans to extend the school day constructively, according to an email sent to parents in RSU 22.
Other school districts across the state are dealing with the same issue.
Camden-Rockport tested a new “take work home program” for snow days earlier this year.
