Tabitha King inspires library display

Written by

BANGOR - Tabitha King is the inspiration for a new display at the Bangor Public Library.

King recently wrote a letter to a news outlet that published a headline that read, "Stephen King and his wife" but failed to mention her name.

In the letter, she wrote, "Wife is a relationship status. It is not an identity."

The display at the library, titled "She has a name," features a collection of novels with titles referring to the main character by relationship status.

"Tabitha King is a great author in her own right and was understandably very upset and wrote about how not just her, but women in general, are referred to as a wife or mother and not their name. The idea just took off from there," said Clare Davitt, a reference librarian.

There are also name tags there for people who go to the library to check out books.
